Uses of Philurso Soft Capsules
Philurso® is indicated for the following cases:
- Supportive treatment of chronic liver diseases: fatty liver, viral hepatitis, cirrhosis.
- Supportive treatment and prevention of blood cholesterol and gallstones.
Pharmacodynamics
Ursodeoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring acid present in small amounts in human bile. Ursodeoxycholic acid inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis and secretion, and also inhibits intestinal cholesterol absorption.
Thiamine is a coenzyme in carbohydrate metabolism, responsible for the decarboxylation of alpha-keto acids such as pyruvate and alpha-ketoglutarate, and for the utilization of pentose in the hexose monophosphate pathway.
Riboflavin is converted into two coenzymes, flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), which are active coenzyme forms required for tissue respiration. Riboflavin is also necessary for pyridoxine activation, tryptophan metabolism to niacin, and maintaining red blood cell integrity.
Pharmacokinetics
Ursodeoxycholic acid is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and undergoes enterohepatic circulation.
Part of the drug is conjugated in the liver before being secreted into bile. Due to intestinal bacterial activity, the free and conjugated forms undergo 7α-dehydroxylation to lithocholic acid, some of which is excreted directly in the feces. The remainder is reabsorbed, mostly conjugated and sulfated in the liver before being excreted in feces.
Thiamine is easily absorbed orally and widely distributed throughout body tissues. It is stored in small amounts in the body, and any excess beyond the body’s needs is excreted in urine unchanged or as metabolites.
Riboflavin is rapidly absorbed orally and distributed to tissues but stored minimally in the body. Excess intake beyond the body’s needs is excreted unchanged in urine. Riboflavin is also excreted in feces.
Administration of Philurso Soft Capsules
Administration
Philurso® is taken orally, after meals.
Dosage
Adults: 1 capsule, 3 times daily after meals.
Note: The above dosage is for reference only. The specific dose depends on the patient’s condition and disease progression. Consult a doctor or healthcare professional for the appropriate dose.
Overdose
Serious adverse effects are unlikely in cases of overdose. However, liver function should be monitored. If necessary, ion-exchange resins can be used to bind bile acids in the intestine.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the scheduled time. Do not double the dose.
Side effects
When using Philurso®, you may experience adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
Diarrhea is rare.
Water-soluble vitamins are generally non-toxic when used within safe limits, and any excess is rapidly excreted in the urine.
Guidelines for Managing ADRs
If you experience any adverse effects, discontinue the medication and inform your doctor or visit the nearest healthcare facility for prompt management.
Note
Before using this medication, you should carefully read the instructions and review the information below.
Contraindications
Philurso® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patients with biliary obstruction.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Precautions for Use
Check liver function in cases of severe cirrhosis, liver cell failure, or severe bile duct obstruction (serum bilirubin above 200 µmol/L).
This medication contains the excipient glycerin, which may cause headache, gastrointestinal discomfort, or diarrhea.
This medication contains the excipient sorbitol. If your doctor has previously informed you that you have intolerance to certain sugars, consult your doctor before using this medication.
Patients with rare hereditary fructose intolerance should not use this medication.

Drug Interaction
The following combinations should be avoided:

- Chenodeoxycholic acid: In cases of cholesterol gallstones, chenodeoxycholic acid may enhance the effect of ursodeoxycholic acid on cholesterol saturation in bile.
- Alcohol, probenecid: Reduce the absorption of riboflavin in the intestine and stomach.
Storage
Store in a dry, cool place, away from light.
