2 Effects and Indications of Biobrains
2.1 Effects of Biobrains
Choline is an essential nutrient for liver, muscle, and brain functions, as well as lipid metabolism, cell membrane composition, and repair.
Choline alfoscerate (CA, L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine), a semi-synthetic derivative of phosphatidylcholine, is a common precursor of acetylcholine in the brain. CA has been reported to improve memory and cognition in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and stroke. Moreover, its neuroprotective effect has been reported in experimental models of AD, stroke, and pilocarpine-induced seizures. For these neurodegenerative conditions, using a cholinergic precursor nutraceutical may be a therapeutic option. Some clinical studies have demonstrated benefits of Choline alfoscerate in patients with cognitive impairment.
